Psalm 91 is a powerful reminder that God’s protection is near those who look to Him. It has been read, quoted and memorized by countless numbers of Christians facing danger. Corrie ten Boom shared that her father, Casper ten Boom, requested this Psalm be read aloud in the prison when they were together for the last time. It was a favorite Psalm in their household. Psalm 91 has comforted and “held” my thoughts steady when facing dark nights and frightening moments in Africa. I have found it is impossible to be afraid and recite such powerful scripture simultaneously. It can be used by our Father to hold us steady when life’s storms threaten.

Psalm 23 has been a haven of scripture for countless generations of believers. From childhood to old age, this Psalm comforts and reassures us that our Lord is a good Shepherd who guides, leads, protects, and blesses. The imagery of GOD as a good Shepherd has enabled many to put aside their defenses and lay themselves in the bend of His loving arm. The picture of a Shepherd God holding a helpless lamb allows us to see ourselves as His much-loved lambs and choose a life under His care. This Psalm has been my personal go-to when i find my mind wandering into fields of “worry”. It’s a wonderful grounding truth — The Lord is my Shepherd….I lack nothing I need….

Psalm 27 compels us to remember that God holds us and shines His light into every dark place we encounter. If we seek the Lord with sincere hearts, He will respond and give us shelter and salvation. God offers help for today and hope for eternity; our confidence can rest in Him. Fear loses its strength when we remember that our faith is in The Lord. God is good. Evil is cruel and dark. But our Lord brings goodness, and we are blessed by Him as we carry His light and goodness forward.
